My Software Engineering Journey 🚀
Currently, I'm a 24 year old software engineering student persuing my Bachelor's degree at the Technical University of Vienna. My journey into the world of programming began at the age of 12 when I discovered coding at a summer computer camp in Wald am Alberg. Over the course of three visits, I learned various languages and technologies that shaped my passion.
Early Coding Adventures
During my first camp, I took my initial steps into coding with Visual Basic, learning the basics of a programming language. My final project was roulette Comwmand Line Interface (CLI). The second visit introduced me to the world of web development, where I mastered HTML and CSS, allowing me to create my very first website. The third camp deepened my skills as I embraced Java and learned Android app development using Android Studio.
High School and Specialization
Driven by my passion, I enrolled in high school at HTL Dornbirn, specializing in Betriebsinformatik (Business Informatics). Eager for the challenge, I spent the summer before it started reading the entire book "Java ist auch eine Insel," placing me ahead in Java skills for the first three years. This educational chapter laid the foundation for my knowledge in computer science, covering a spectrum of topics from Project Management and Networking to APIs and Databases. In 2019, I proudly graduated with success, holding the Matura.
Summer Internships During HTL
During my time at HTL, I undertook three summer internships to enhance my practical experience.
- At KAPITEL 4, a graphic agency, I utilized Photoshop and Illustrator to contribute to the creation of templates for Gymnaestrada 2019 in Dornbirn.
- My second internship at Hypo Informatics Vorarlberg in 2017 immersed me in Visual Basic and C#. I was tasked with creating an evaluation matrix to assess various Excel APIs for their applicability in .NET applications. Additionally, I designed an application capable of converting Excel tables into text documents.
- In 2018, I collaborated with colleagues Andreas and Adrian at Vision Flow, tackling our diploma theses on evaluating multi-touch screens for supply chain applications. This marked the culmination of my academic journey before entering the real world.
Civil Service at the Austrian Red Cross
Post-graduation, I spent a year at the Austrian Red Cross for my civil service. As a paramedic, I not only gained invaluable medical experience but also faced the challenges brought by the onset of COVID.
Bachelor Software Engeneering at TU Vienna
Following my civil service, I relocated to Vienna, pursuing a Bachelor's in Software and Information Engineering at TU Vienna.
Ecommerce Manager at Pro Sound Europe
At the start of my bachelor's, I joined the professional audio ecommerce shop Pro Sound Europe as an E-Commerce Manager. We kicked things off using Woocommerce and smoothly transitioned to Shopify, achieving an incredible 20X growth for the business. My role covered a wide range of areas, from diving into SEO and managing the supply chain to overseeing E-Commerce operations and delving into marketing strategies. I had to learn the ropes hands-on since, in the early days, I was the sole technical manager. Fast forward to now, and we've evolved into a dynamic team of four, working together to tackle new challenges and drive success.
Summer Internship at TOWA
In Summer 2023, I worked for two months at TOWA, a digital growth company, in the web development department. I improved my project management skills with Jira, worked on customer tickets, and expanded my knowledge in dev ops by creating pipelines with buddy.works and setting up servers with Digital Ocean. I gained experience in nuxt and some in Storyblock. One of my final projects was creating an internal dashboard using Vue in the frontend and Node.js Express in the backend, accessing meta and an HR Software API to display birthdays, Instagram posts, and custom messages within the company.
